Sisters Sarah and Sophia Persaud Earn Prestigious President’s Volunteer Service Award

Lindenhurst, NEW YORK (December 2023)—Lindenhurst students Sarah and Sophia Persaud were honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award on Presidents’ Day. This special award is the most prestigious volunteer award associated with the White House, and it recognizes those who have dedicated many hours of volunteer service for their communities.

Sarah earned the Silver Award for teenagers, which requires 75 to 99 hours of community service, while Sophia earned the Gold Award for kids, which requires more than 75 hours of community service. As part of the recognition, both sisters received a pin, a medallion, an engraved certificate, and a congratulations letter from the President Biden. The students also received certificates from State Sen. Kevin Thomas and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

The award ceremony was hosted by the Long Island Volunteer Center, which connects volunteers with nonprofit organizations that need their help.
