National Art Honor Society Students Visit Alleghany for a Lesson on Color Gradients

Lindenhurst, NEW YORK (January, 2024)—Lindenhurst High School National Art Honor Society students made a visit to Alleghany Avenue Elementary School on January 25th. The group met with students in Alleghany’s fifth grade art club to work together on a special painting project.

Under the guidance of Art Honor Society advisor AnnJeannine Cuozzo, the high schoolers chose a sample painting for the group to replicate with their younger peers. The painting, which depicts a snowy landscape with a blue winter sky, gave the students the opportunity to work on a painting technique, known as value, to create color gradients. Together, the students practiced their gradients to make their own versions of the painting.

“It was a wonderful evening of painting, mixing, learning, and creating,” said Alleghany art teacher and club advisor Kerri Webb. “It was truly special to see the members of Lindenhurst High School Art Honor Society collaborate and work so nicely with our fifth grade students.”
