More about Our School

The Daniel Street Elementary School is committed to the academic, social, emotional, and physical well being of our students. The principle that all children can and will learn lies at the core of our beliefs. We recognize that in order to reach our goals a genuine partnership among parents, teachers, students, and community is paramount. Our strong home/school connection results in an atmosphere of caring, cooperation, and commitment.

The Daniel Street Elementary School provides a strong learning foundation for elementary learners of all ages and skill levels. We provide a balanced literacy program which identifies early intervention as the key to future academic success. Education technology is an important part of our curriculum as we prepare our students for success in the modern world. Mobile laptop labs, a fixed computer room, digital projectors linked to the internet, and smart board technology all contribute to our academic program. We are extremely proud of our students, who regularly score among the top students in Suffolk County and New York State on state exams in Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.

Character education is an important component of our educational program. We strive to develop students who are respectful of themselves and others. Acceptance, tolerance, and an appreciation of individual differences define our school values. Our partnership with the Senior High School helps us to facilitate these goals through programs such as Peer Leadership and Big Brother/Big Sister. In addition, our older students serve as role models for our younger students through programs such as fifth grade helpers, peer readers, and as partners to our students participating in the Games for the Physically Challenged.
