Students Gain Real-World IT Experience Through Chromebook Repair Program
The Lindenhurst IT Department has launched an innovative program that allows high school students to assist in repairing damaged Chromebooks for their peers. Students participating in the program—primarily those enrolled or interested in the Cybersecurity pathway—completed specialized training and earned industry recognized certification to repair the district’s Acer Chromebooks.
Twice a week, students work in the Administration Building diagnosing device issues and completing approved repairs under the supervision of district IT staff. The district’s Chromebook insurance plan remains essential, as it covers the cost of replacement parts and major or accidental damage, while students perform the repair labor as part of their supervised training. This program provides a much faster turnaround time for students who rely on their Chromebooks for learning, while also reducing repair costs for the district.
Beyond the operational benefits, the initiative offers students valuable, hands-on experience in the technology field. By working with real equipment in a professional setting, students gain practical skills and real-world experience they can add to their résumés as they prepare for future academic and career opportunities.
